Birdcages add so much interest to a space, especially when they have a  vintage look. Birdcages can accent any room, be used for various events from weddings to parties but can also be  enjoyed  inside and outside the home.  Coming this fall is  the new Notting Hill Collection, which features this large, vintage style bird cage wallpaper design.   This pattern will look  FAB in a powder room, sitting room, laundry room or as an accent wallpaper in a bedroom. No matter where its used,  this print adds drama to any space. Where would you hang it?

Pattern of the Week: Cynthia Rowley’s Surf’s Up Floral Wetsuit

July 1, 2013 By Jaima Leave a Comment

Surf’s Up!

Summer wouldn’t be complete without some frolicking on the beach.  Why not do it in style…Cynthia Rowley style.  Her graphic prints this season (especially this floral inspired one) have been nothing short of epic.  And what’s even better than these dramatic prints on her silky top and girly dresses, is them on her sporty neoprene designs.  Whether you’re hitting the surf and in need of a wetsuit or hit the cabana club in needs of some sport shorts, Ms. Rowley has you covered!

June 17, 2013 By Jaima Leave a Comment

Connect The Dots….
…or no, actually don’t. This week we are going to focus on fabulous Polka Dots for home design. They are a bit of a  surprise with this years home trend as polka dots flourish throughout the home in wall covering, fabric and accessories.  First up…this fantastic foyer. . these  look sophisticated yet playful at the same time. I love the simplicity and elegance of this polka dot entrance way. It’s even more special when updated and mixed with the Pantone color of the year: Emerald Green. I am seeing spots!!!

Pattern of the Week: Retro Bark Cloth Prints

June 11, 2013 By Jaima 1 Comment

Retro Bark Cloth

As a designer, I love to search, find and touch vintage fabrics and wallpaper prints. Bark cloth which seems to be coming back into home fashion was originally a popular fabric in Asia, Indonesia, Africa and the Pacific. It was made from beating inner fibrous tree bark but is now made from cotton and other synthetic fibers woven in a thick weave. Bark cloth fabric has a soft, semi nubby feel to the material and was named Bark cloth because it’s texture was similar to tree bark.

Pattern of the Week: A Fabric Inspired Bike

May 15, 2013 By Jaima Leave a Comment

A Chic Fabric Bike

I was out and about  yesterday visiting some of my favorite fabric showrooms.  I discovered the Baker pamphlet which has  a bright upholstered  bike-shaw (a  revised Rickshaw). Baker is a  British company and  I can relate as my parents were both British…no wonder I like them.   This bike totally reminds me of two things. First,  a  fun memory of  Rick ( my late husband )  and I riding a bike-shaw  in New York from the theater to our hotel  because it was raining so much we couldn’t get a cab. Of course, our bike-shaw didn’t look anything like this beauty. The other memory is of my mother. She lived in Hong Kong when she was a young bride in the 1930’s.  The  family photo of her  is  my mother riding on an actual Rickshaw but the photo is vintage and in sepia,  not  color.  What a great idea…I see a new  bike seat in my future…do you?

Pattern of the Week: A Wallpapered Porch

May 6, 2013 By Jaima Leave a Comment

As I was visiting friends over on the  East coast, I couldn’t resist taking this photo.  I love the fact this house has a  wallpapered porch. It’s so warm and inviting. Unique as well as I can’t remember ever seeing wallpaper outside… oh yes, once on a car but that’s for another day! Happy papering. porch2
