On our drive back to Florida we stopped in southern Savannah Georgia. It was fabulous! I love all the old buildings as they flaunt history and style all at the same time. The Savannah Cotton Exchange building is gorgeous. It was completed in 1887 during the era when Georgia was one of the cotton capitals of the world.
The Old Savannah Cotton Exchange was ranked as the first cotton seaport on the Atlantic as well as being second in the world for cotton production. During this time, over two million bales of cotton were moved through this port per year. The building was designed by William Gibbons Preston, an Architect from Boston and won the competition amongst 11 architects.

There is a lovely wrought iron railing that surrounds the front garden plat. It has medallions featured in between each panel which illustrate various poets, authors and statesmen that visited the ante-bellum Wetter House over periods of time. The town is full of charm and surrounded with stunning historical architecture. A classic building like the city hall offers some spectacular scenery with its golden dome radiating old world charm and elegance.
I love the intricate scrolling of the wrought iron gates, fences and balconies which are the finishing details to so many homes in Savannah.
The book “Gates of Savannah: A Walking Tour” shows these uniquely designed wrought iron portals. The author is Merana Caderette who features lovely illustrations of the hand crafted wrought iron portals which are actually viewed on the walking tour throughout Savannah.
Of course, to finish off the night, we had dinner outside at Belford’s with our English Black Lab Daisy.
Many restaurants in Savannah will let you dine with your dogs. So how could we not love it! Cheers!

I love your work. If I do need some ironwork, you would be the one to call. Some of your staircases are lovely.
