Reese Witherspoon Author “Whiskey in a Teacup”

Reese Witherspoon “Whiskey in a Teacup” Event

Yes, I was invited to attend the Reese Witherspoon book tour “Whiskey in a Teacup” in New York City.

It’s no surprise that famous actress, producer, director Reese Witherspoon  and author of Whiskey in a Teacup, likes wallpaper and pattern. Pattern is everywhere throughout her book and her clothing line.  On the cover of her new book “Whiskey in a Teacup” features a Chinoiserie mural, totally hip for today’s lifestyle decor.  The VIP event was held at the Town Hall in New York City.  We  started off with a  cocktail which  was  whiskey in a tea cup…that was a first for me! Photos were taken with Reese shortly after and then we could shop for items in her pop up shop.  At 8pm Reese was interviewed about writing her book and growing up in the south.  Reese was casual, funny, charming and totally engaging.  All her stories about entertaining, family life and how her grandmother was a big influence was inspiring. I can relate  to her entertaining quips as my parents were British so setting a table properly, preparing a home for an event  and learning how to make sure  guests were well looked after was part of my upbringing as well.  I love her romantic comedies like Legally Blond and the movie “Wild” that she starred in and produced.  Reese Witherspoon is extremely smart, beautiful and a positive inspiration to all women.  A true powerhouse!

The goody bag in the VIP group included a  signed copy  of her book ” Whiskey in a Teacup” by Reese  as well as Whiskey, jam, book marks, Southern Living Magazine, a card and a discount book mark for shopping  on line or in one of her retail shops  Draper James.  It was fabulous meeting Reese Witherspoon. You must get her book “Whiskey in a Teacup “as it is filled with great stories, recipes for entertaining, decorating ideas and  Reese even shares her tips on styling your hair with hot rollers. Yes, I loved that part as I have lots of hair to style!  Enjoy!

Modern Glam with Pearl Glitter Wallpaper

September 12, 2018 By Jaima Leave a Comment

You want the look of Hollywood glam in a subtle way but not sure how to pull it off? Select patterns that reflect the elegance of the past and mix them with modern prints. “Ammi” is a contemporary pattern that is printed on white in a pearl glitter ink. The Glitter creates a subtle bling affect on the wall and adds a touch of simple luxury to any decor. Mix it with “Solana“, a faux vinyl embossed grasscloth. It’s great for durability but feels and looks all natural. Finish the interior with a timeless Chinoiserie toile fabric with a pop of Fuschia and your subtle Hollywood Glam look is born!

Flamin Hot!!

December 6, 2012 By Jaima Leave a Comment

Reminiscent of Missoni’s, well, almost everything, the flame stitch is once again having a moment.   An endless array of color combinations and various forms of geometric interpretations make for an appealing focal point.  As a wallpaper (like the one pictured below), or reinvented as a rug, or even just pieced in with a great decorative tray or throw, the flame stitch pattern is both visually stimulating and practical.  It has been around for a thousand years and is as relevant and usable as ever.  Whether splurging for Missoni or opting for a more affordable option, why not use a new flame stitch element as the color inspiration for a room overhaul?!

Wallflowers

Wallpaper is making resurgence in decorating, and it’s coming back with greater appeal than ever before.  Once again, Anthropologie has sourced some of the best of “what’s new” with some of the freshest prints and design concepts to be seen.  The Dreamscape Mural by Rebekah Maysles  provides an easy to apply six panel mural that allows for stick-on application and easy removal.  The Dynasty wallpaper, along with all other designs by Brooklyn-based design studio, Eskayel, established environmentally friendly wallpaper.  This style in a digitally printed watercolor painting recreation. These and other equally bold and inspiring designs establish a large focal point and minimize the need for large amounts of art.  What better draw to get back into the groove of wallpaper?

Pattern:The New Trend & Why It’s Great for Decorating

July 29, 2011 By Jaima 1 Comment

wallpaper, decor with patterns, mixing many prints, interior design with wallpaper

Hi, I’m Jaima,  a designer who has  been blessed with a natural design talent. I have the ability to put  beautiful patterns and colors together which is shown through my jewelry, bags and interior fabrics.  I can  forecast what the  new and exciting trends are  going to be and  I believe “pattern is the next big trend in fashion and home.”

I don’t live in a sterile world of  painted walls. My rooms are usually wallpapered and lots of patterns are mixed into the decor through drapes, upholstery, bedding and accessories. I also love to decorate ceilings! Yes….that’s right ceilings. These designers love it as well.

Fashion + Home = 1 Style

April 12, 2010 By Jaima 1 Comment

Does ones fashion style translate into interior design?    Today, they are inter mixed and one does have a sense of uniqueness in  dress and decor.  Color  and pattern are the main design features that unite the  styles together.  To begin this weeks design challenge we chose  a   blue & white dress from Diane Von Furstenburg which reflects  her  classic tailoring in her famous wrap dress.  This fashionable dress is easily  paired with a Barclay Butera blue and white interior: both are tailored, sophisticated and  yet  offer a sense of  elegance and casualness.   A woman wearing this style of dress would surround herself with tailored stripe pillows,  blue beachcomber chairs like the sea shell pattern in blue from GP & Baker, witty stripes and elegant monochrome paisleys.    Both styles exude a familiar attitude and feel in design.

I  always assumed that fashion lead the way, but now, I not so sure anymore.  It is interesting to see how an individuals  personal  style translates into  their home style.  When we look at a personality of a room, we look at  color, style of pattern  and types of design elements one chooses to make a design statement.  People don’t realize that how we dress  tells us  more about ourselves and  our homes than one thinks.  Today’s home furnishings and fabrics are far more  trend and  lifestyle orientated.  When we look back at the 1950’s, everyone wanted what the neighbors had and imitated them. Now, consumers want to  be individualistic and put their stamp on the world through their own fashion and home style.

What’s fascinating is that subconsciously we do reflect  our personal style naturally.  For instance, this stunning orange, turquoise and black decor from Gaita Interiors is a great modern look.  It reflects a young vibrant attitude which is also displayed in the wrap dress from Diane Von Furstenburg. Both are fun and flirty and one senses this visually.   It even gets deeper than this as patterns and colors  have symbolic meanings.   Subconsciously, the color orange symbolizes vitality, creativity and  power; the color black symbolizes power and strength;  one feels this vibrancy from the dress and  decor. The dress  is predominantly black with less orange and turquoise where the decor is focused on orange and turquoise with less black, but both symbolize similar meanings.  It is a fascinating world out there  when we realize there are deeper meanings subconsciously affecting us but we are usually unaware of  these subtle  forces influencing  our fashion and home decisions.

Ones individuality is definitely  expressed not only through fashion but also through ones approach to interior decorating.  Purple is the color of royalty while lavender is the color of femininity. This color can invoke a feeling of romance and can soften an interior space beautifully.  Just like this elegant lavender accessory it stands out being soft yet bold, just like the Sebastian wallpaper for this front foyer; inviting propecia blood pressure but not intimidating.

How one  uses color and pattern in a room is  very  important to our senses.   I love the bold statement this yellow couch has in this predominantly black and white room. Yellow makes us think of sunshine, makes us smile and is a symbol of happiness. Even though yellow is a color of high visibility and often used for  warning signs we can use it differently in a decor. Here it creates a bold statement, just like in the Nicole Miller dress. Bold, daring and not afraid of being noticed is what these two design statements have in common.  Visually they say notice me, I am powerful, confident and exude  a cheerful attitude. The room symbolizes power graphically just like the dress but with a simpler approach to design.

So take notice of your home and fashion style! You may  be amazed what you discover!

Tulip Passion

August 17, 2009 By Jaima 1 Comment

Florals are making a triumphant return to home fashion.   Whether you are a minimalist who loves retro styled prints or a traditionalist who desires the classics, there is a floral to suit everyone’s style. Make a statement by creating a feature wall with this dramatic tulip wallpaper “Dutch Treat”. The pattern itself was inspired from a vintage fabric from Europe.  Historically, tulips are among one of the most popular springtime garden flowers.

FlowerPowerBlogimage

The name tulip originated from the Persian word, “dulband”, which means turban.   Suitably named, the tulip flower resembles a wrapped turban when in full bloom.  Turkish men centuries ago wore tulips tucked into their turbans.

Symbolically, tulips represent fame and perfect love, however their meanings change depending on the color of the tulips.    Red tulips mean, “believe me” and are a declaration of love. A bouquet of tulips symbolizes grace and elegance.

Every pattern used in decorating has a story to tell.  This room is about grace and elegance, visually and symbolically. Bring meaning and style to your décor through the fascinating world of pattern symbolism and elevate your decorating to the next level.

Laundry Day

August 5, 2009 By Jaima Leave a Comment

Talk about a lot of dirty laundry….According to American Demographics, Americans wash about 35 million loads of laundry per year.   Previously, the laundry area was focused on performing a function.  Today, architects are re-designing this how much does propecia cost room into a multi functional space for various home projects.

LAUNDRY

This area is often the most overlooked room when it comes to decorating.  So why not wash away the blues and bring some color and sunshine into your laundry area with a quirky novelty print.  Our room sets the tone for “extreme ironing” with this cheerful “Iron Butterflies” wall design in aqua.

So set up your WII game and iron on!
