Style Star: Twiggy

January 2, 2013 By Jaima Leave a Comment

Twiggy – A champion of the one word moniker and certainly one of the biggest…and, ironically, also smallest…supermodels of all time.  She exemplified the Mod subculture and brought its high fashion style to the masses.  Her waifish figure and Carnaby Street style cemented her icon status beyond her London peers.  As much as her thick, chunky lashes become a signature of hers, so did bold, flower power patterns of the mod look.  And so as 2012 winds down, this week is an homage to the past, present and future in a floral focused world.

Style Star: Chanel Iman

December 26, 2012 By Jaima Leave a Comment

If her name is any indication, Chanel Iman was born to be a part of the fashion world…that, and her gifted genetic make-up.  It is basically a model must to be uber stylish these days, but some girls just have that X factor that sets them apart from their peers.  Chanel, like her namesake, is one of those ladies.  Clothes just drape better, make-up emits an extra bit of dewy glow, and the overall package always seems to just work.  I am typically a hater of any garment with a shoulder cut out detail, but even that looks amazing on her.  Oh, to be a model…

Style Star: Carine Roitfield

December 4, 2012 By Jaima Leave a Comment

Model, author, muse, editor, stylist, consultant, icon…is there any a chapeau Carine Roitfield has not worn?  Creeping up on 60 and Carine is still the epitome of chic – the woman, her French counterparts and hoards of global fashionistas alike all aspire to emulate.  Asymmetrical hemlines, deconstructed pieces, utilitarian inspiration, and just enough femininity…she is the personification of all of my favorite style elements.  Stepping down as editor-in-chief at French Vogue last year, she knows not to wear out her welcome…and always aspires to reinvigorate her career while staying true to the style that made her a fashion celebrity.

Style Star: Ms. Carrie Bradshaw

November 27, 2012 By Jaima Leave a Comment

This week’s style star pays homage to the everlasting love of Carrie Bradshaw: her savvy, sense of humor, and of course, unparalleled sense of style.  In fact, I think all of my posts this week will draw on Carrie’s ability to capture our hearts with her fashion whimsy.  We have, after all, just had a week of thanks…and aren’t we all pretty thankful for her continued source of inspiration years after leaving our Sunday night rotation?  The crop tops, oooohhh the crop tops.  Exposing a full foot of midriff may not be a viable option for most of us, but she definitely motivated more crunches from me than any trainer ever could.  Fashion goals are a beautiful thing!!  Then there are the gowns….ahhhh the gowns.  How did  she always so overdress for a date night, and yet still seem so perfectly appropriate?  A modern fashion marvel that Carrie Bradshaw!

Style Star: Rachel Zoe

November 7, 2012 By Jaima Leave a Comment

It goes without saying that a great stylist should have great personal style.  But still, let’s give credit where credit is due here.  You can’t have a chat about the vets of the industry without making reference to Rachel Zoe.  She has a penchant for piecing together a plethora of standout oversized accessories (and cloths for that matter) and always remains true to her signature style.  She follows the motto that a bold lip and great pair of sunnies can make anyone look good, and from my perspective, she has worked her motto to perfection.

Style Star: I am Meggy… Fan Bingbing

October 23, 2012 By Jaima Leave a Comment

I did some serious e-globetrotting in search of this week’s Style Star and I must say, she was well worth the trip.  Chinese actress, singer and producer, Fan Bingbing is my sartorial subject and the reason a few red carpet snaps reduced me to a Pavlovian-style drool.  With an outstanding resume under her belt and Oscar caliber acclaim in her native country, Ms. Bingbing is quite the celebrity in her homeland.  Her supernatural beauty brought her global reach as a L’oreal spokesperson, the only one from Asia in fact.  What she is most known for stateside however, is an unmatched sense of style.  Some of her most influential looks are ones that she has helped to create herself, and her retro-glam charm surfaces in whatever she is wearing.  She is truly one to watch.

Style Star: Cat Deely

October 16, 2012 By Jaima Leave a Comment

I can always count on my fashion pulse to beat a little faster when I come across Cat Deeley’s latest ensembles.  The actress, model, and TV Host is always a reliable source of style inspiration with her trend setting mix of old and new.  She most definitely tops my list of celeb closets I’d like to raid with her stylist-caliber eye for great vintage pieces and the crème de la crème of what’s straight off the runways.  Always one to watch as she sashays onto the stage of So You Think You Can Dance, her street style is equally as impressive with a perfectly undone mish mosh of accessories.  Her best accessory is easily accessible to all of us though; a megawatt smile ALWAYS ups the ante of any look.

Powder Play

October 10, 2012 By Jaima Leave a Comment

While I’ve never been one to adhere to those fashion rules that went out of style when individuality came in, wearing white after Labor Day does require a certain level of consciousness of shades, fabrics and all around styling.  Fall 2012 runways revealed models sauntering about in brighter and bluer hues than normal; all looking perfectly crisp for year round mix-and-matching.  Reed Krakoff and Brood show off great examples in layers of color-free architectural design.  So go ahead and break the rules and wear your powdery white best before and after Labor Day.

Style Star: Olivia Palermo

October 9, 2012 By Jaima Leave a Comment

An actress, a model, and most notably, a socialite, Olivia Palermo has a sense of style that transcends her party-hopping peers.  At just 26, she has mastered an individual look that goes far beyond replicating the latest stylist-plucked ensembles.  While she may have the budget to recreate runway looks with her everyday attire, Ms. Palermo has a keen ability to juxtapose the high and low and to intertwine an artful mix of prints alongside statement pieces.  This ever so trendy look often veers the way of overdone by less skilled tastemakers, yet she makes these busy outfits somehow seem simple.  Kudos Olivia, kudos!
