Wallflowers

October 11, 2012 By Jaima Leave a Comment

Wallpaper is making resurgence in decorating, and it’s coming back with greater appeal than ever before.  Once again, Anthropologie has sourced some of the best of “what’s new” with some of the freshest prints and design concepts to be seen.  The Dreamscape Mural by Rebekah Maysles  provides an easy to apply six panel mural that allows for stick-on application and easy removal.  The Dynasty wallpaper, along with all other designs by Brooklyn-based design studio, Eskayel, established environmentally friendly wallpaper.  This style in a digitally printed watercolor painting recreation. These and other equally bold and inspiring designs establish a large focal point and minimize the need for large amounts of art.  What better draw to get back into the groove of wallpaper? Part II: THE EFFECT OF PATTERN IN SPACES

September 28, 2010 By Jaima Leave a Comment

Part II   THE EFFECT OF PATTERN IN SPACES Well, you just finished getting your samples, images and notes all together in your journal from our last post. Now that you have everything together lets talk a little bit about how pattern effects spaces. When you choose a pattern for a room it can be the focal point or act as a backdrop. Pattern can visually change the size of a room making it look larger or smaller and pattern can be used to disguise uneven walls. Just make a decision on where you want to add pattern and then you can begin adding pattern into your space. PATTERNS DEFINE SPACES When adding pattern to a room like this Thibaut wallpaper you have to remember to balance your colors and prints. Small patterns have a tendency to look like one color when seen from a distance where large patterns tend […]

September 17, 2010 By Jaima 1 Comment

oIt ‘s no wonder that  people and countries love the rooster. It is a symbol of pride, honesty, courage, vigilance, strength and arrogance.  In French, often the rooster is named Chanticleer, which is the name of this aqua wallpaper print from Jaima Brown Home.

Living Large with Bold Patterns

July 8, 2010 By Jaima 8 Comments

Ever heard someone say “Bold is Beautiful”?  Well it certainly comes into play when decorating with pattern.  First of all,  get rid of that old decorating myth  ” use small patterns in small spaces” because we no longer live by those rules. Large scaled patterns are perfect for small and large sized interiors. Myth #1: Large Patterns are for large spaces. There are no limits anymore when it comes to design rules.  Turn a  boring white walled decor into a stylishly bold space by using a large scaled pattern on one wall.  I love  how the designer took a traditional floral motif  transforming it into a grand sized print,  instantly creating an urban beauty.   The look  is simple yet  dramatic and reflects how old ideas are revitalized with  new technology  in today’s design world.

Fun Conversational Prints!

April 27, 2010 By Jaima 14 Comments

Do you ever look at novelty designs and wonder  where they came from?  In the design world, they are known as conversational prints. They started to come into play around  the early 1900’s but became extremely popular in the 1940s. When you look at some of the quirky patterns used on fabrics and wallpapers  you start to understand why they were called conversational prints as they certainly gave people lots to talk about. These designs create a  nostalgic link  which often makes us laugh and smile.  Most of the early  designs were made for children and featured nursery rhymes, baby animals, children at play, cartoon characters, alphabet letters and numbers. History had a huge influence on the subject matter used in fabric designs.   During World War II, textile production was limited yet women and children often wore  patriotic prints  as it was a popular theme amongst the home and […]

Bold is Beautiful

April 20, 2010 By Jaima Leave a Comment

Step out and be bold!  Go for the gusto and take the simple approach to decorating. Start with using one bold  pattern in a room to make a design statement. It’s easy. Just pick a pattern you like, such as a floral, stripe, damask, or any bold motif image to decorate your wall of choice.  It just makes your living space so much more fun to be in!  When you use  a bold pattern in a room decor, it draws your eye to it and  automatically creates a  focal point.  Just like the Designers Guild large floral above, it totally creates a unique atmosphere  in the room.  The latest trend in wallpaper in Europe is to wallpaper one wall! Yes…….that’s right, wallpaper one wall and paint the other three. Bedrooms are especially popular for this style of decorating as you can see below.  The black and white Anna French wallpaper […]

Chic Chinoiserie

February 10, 2010 By Jaima 8 Comments

Chinoiserie is a french term meaning “Chinese-esque”  referring to an artistic style used in decorating since the 17th century.  It is artwork often characterized with Chinese imagery that includes motifs of temples, monkeys, pagodas, elephants, birds, dragonfly’s and butterflies. This style is unique as patterns can have various looks because of the way the pattern is colored. This gorgeous Hermes orange bedroom by Sara Story,  is a lovely modern blend of traditional Chinoiserie with modern style.

Celebrate at Home for Special Occasions

February 9, 2010 By Jaima Leave a Comment

Hosting a special occasion or shower…blend in your home décor! Instead of using gimmicky or party themed decorations, create an elegant event by mixing elements from your home fashion.  Use fabric from your draperies or chairs to make a custom tablecloth, or use a plain table cloth and dress it up with a complementary wallpaper border that coordinates with the room like we did here for this wedding shower. Use left over wallpaper to decorate a  folding screen to place photos, place cards or gift cards. Incorporate  your  dining room color theme by designing a custom cake to match your decor. You can also incorporate your colors and style into your invitations and thank you cards so there is one unique  theme to the entire event. Create custom gift bags for your guests to hold their party favors so they will have a keepsake to remember the special occasion.  I […]
