Pattern of the Week: Retro Bark Cloth Prints

June 11, 2013 By Jaima 1 Comment

Retro Bark Cloth As a designer, I love to search, find and touch vintage fabrics and wallpaper prints. Bark cloth which seems to be coming back into home fashion was originally a popular fabric in Asia, Indonesia, Africa and the Pacific. It was made from beating inner fibrous tree bark but is now made from cotton and other synthetic fibers woven in a thick weave. Bark cloth fabric has a soft, semi nubby feel to the material and was named Bark cloth because it’s texture was similar to tree bark. Rare 1930’s Georgia O’Keeffe Orchid Bark Cloth

Pattern of the Week: A Wallpapered Porch

May 6, 2013 By Jaima Leave a Comment

As I was visiting friends over on the  East coast, I couldn’t resist taking this photo.  I love the fact this house has a  wallpapered porch. It’s so warm and inviting. Unique as well as I can’t remember ever seeing wallpaper outside… oh yes, once on a car but that’s for another day! Happy papering. The Wallpapered Porch Photo taken by Jaima Emmert for Jaima & Co. Hi everyone! New this week is our Pattern of the Week blog.  Why not start your week off with a fun, beautiful, whimsical, modern, transitional, traditional …. you name it sort of print to brighten your day and week? Today is all about Paris. I have been thinking a lot about traveling afar and Paris has come to mind.  Its romantic, has lovely architecture and the champagne and food is fabulous. A perfect spot for any honeymoon. This  pattern fits right in with this weeks blogs as we’re focusing on wedding gown designers and bridal ideas. So it just happened by chance that I came across a whimsical wallpaper design with the Eiffel Tower.  Great novelty print for one wall, a laundry room, a scrap booking room, a powder room or a reading room. So escape from your home to Paris …enjoy the trip! C’est Magnifique Wallpaper courtesy of anthropologie.com

Flamin Hot!!

December 6, 2012 By Jaima Leave a Comment

Reminiscent of Missoni’s, well, almost everything, the flame stitch is once again having a moment.   An endless array of color combinations and various forms of geometric interpretations make for an appealing focal point.  As a wallpaper (like the one pictured below), or reinvented as a rug, or even just pieced in with a great decorative tray or throw, the flame stitch pattern is both visually stimulating and practical.  It has been around for a thousand years and is as relevant and usable as ever.  Whether splurging for Missoni or opting for a more affordable option, why not use a new flame stitch element as the color inspiration for a room overhaul?!
