Accent-uate The Positive: Zebra Pillow Talk

Accent-uate The Positive

Bringing the safari-esque theme into your home can be equally as daunting a challenge as tastefully blending it into your wardrobe.  It doesn’t, however, mean that you have to totally play it safe.  Animal print throw pillows are nothing new in the interior design world, but why not punch it up a notch by adding some color into the zebra mix?  And no, a fuzzy hot pink and black combo is not a viable option…but a little red and white zebra or chartreuse green and white, now that can work!

Get floored!

In the mood for making a statement with your upcoming redecorating project?  You have my full support… “go bold or go home,” is my motto when it comes to design.  Resofloors from Resopal may just be your new best friend.  Super glossy and surprisingly durable, these high-design floors live up to any contemporary-lover’s décor fantasy.  They are made of compressed fiberboard and are resistant to scrubbing, scratching and all those other things that come with general wear. They are vailable in a plethora of colors and styles to satisfy all of your design whimsy. Wouldn’t that number on the right have been perfect for my Faux Bois post a couple weeks back?!

Wallflowers

Wallpaper is making resurgence in decorating, and it’s coming back with greater appeal than ever before.  Once again, Anthropologie has sourced some of the best of “what’s new” with some of the freshest prints and design concepts to be seen.  The Dreamscape Mural by Rebekah Maysles  provides an easy to apply six panel mural that allows for stick-on application and easy removal.  The Dynasty wallpaper, along with all other designs by Brooklyn-based design studio, Eskayel, established environmentally friendly wallpaper.  This style in a digitally printed watercolor painting recreation. These and other equally bold and inspiring designs establish a large focal point and minimize the need for large amounts of art.  What better draw to get back into the groove of wallpaper?

Pulitzer Prize

Long gone are the days Lilly Pulitzer first began designing dresses to mask the stains she accumulated while working at her juice stands; the days young Kennedy’s spent their summers traveling about in her signature prints.

What remains the same is the love prepsters have for her signature pastel prints.   A love so strong, they demanded the return of the brand after having shuttered in the 80’s.

The resurgence has only gained momentum, with the brand expanding in recent years to include home as well.  The Tangiers King bed below, is a piece from her latest collection, true to the traditional with a punchy look that made her original looks classics.

Print Trend #2 For 2012: INKSPOTS

As a designer, one always likes something different  and when I was a young teenager,  I liked a band called “The Inkspots.”  If you have ever heard of them, you will realize they were no rock band!  OK…never mind the music group, lets look at Inkspots as  the new print style for fashion and home. This look is certainly  expanding  and is  forcast to be popular for 2012.  The patterns seem to be modern yet retro.  The company StudioL2 Design named the technique below ” Ink Blot Cam”.  I feel it’s a blend of two styles:  batik infused with camouflage creating a modern textural new look.   What’s interesting with this fun technique  is how a designer treats and uses it on a product. The result is a pattern that is cool, mod and chic. I’m lov’in it!

A Quirky Quote from Dorothy Draper

Hello, I’m Jaima, Designer / stylist who is totally inspired by  Dorothy Draper.  She was such a fabulous designer….I loved her  energy and her positive attitude.  She accomplished amazing things. Her style was stunning, bold and colorful. She truly lived by her own design rules.

As Dorothy  says ” It is just as disastrous to have the wrong accessories in your room as it is to wear sport shoes with an evening dress.”

Pattern:The New Trend & Why It’s Great for Decorating

Hi, I’m Jaima,  a designer who has  been blessed with a natural design talent. I have the ability to put  beautiful patterns and colors together which is shown through my jewelry, bags and interior fabrics.  I can  forecast what the  new and exciting trends are  going to be and  I believe “pattern is the next big trend in fashion and home.”

I don’t live in a sterile world of  painted walls. My rooms are usually wallpapered and lots of patterns are mixed into the decor through drapes, upholstery, bedding and accessories. I also love to decorate ceilings! Yes….that’s right ceilings. These designers love it as well.

DECORATING IDEAS WITH SUNNY YELLOWS

Yellow is this years  fashionable color. I love the sunny disposition that  yellow creates as it  evokes  emotions of happiness and joy.  It is a color  full of energy and intellect.  Yellow also symbolizes wisdom and is  known to bring clarity and awareness to people.  Drenching your surroundings in yellow can definitely brighten your day and mood.

If your nervous about decorating with yellow, don’t be.  You  can always start by using a small amount in a room.  Just painting a door  with a sunny yellow can accent a bedroom to bring color into a room.   Bedding with yellow accents helps keep the color consistent throughout the room while white walls keep it looking fresh, balanced and light.  The theme is  carried into the master bath by using yellow accessories,  visually creating a seamless flow from one room to another.
